THE OBJECTIVE
Fifteen days off the marked routes. We move deep across the Sahara of Mauritania right in the heart of the Adrar region following some of the most traditional itineraries. We then get off the beaten tracks to the remotest outpost driving between the Maqteïr and the plateau. We enter the Eye of the Sahara and hike to a hidden oasis, before boarding the legendary Iron Ore Train. Our journey then reaches the Atlantic coast, where we sail aboard traditional pirogues through the pristine waters of the Banc d’Arguin. A true expedition defined entirely by boundless terrain, absolute silence, and constantly changing landscapes, navigated by an expert team. Designed for those who prefer to travel light and push the boundaries of exploration.
SAFETY & RISK OVERVIEW
Exploration of Mauritania’s vast desert landscapes takes place in an environment of remarkable tranquility and deep historical resonance.
Unlike regions facing operational volatility, Mauritania offers a stable and secure setting for deep-desert travel, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the quiet majesty of the Sahara with complete peace of mind. Navigating these remote expanses relies on a harmonious blend of modern planning and ancient nomadic hospitality.
By traveling with experienced local guides, respecting traditional desert customs, and traversing routes steeped in centuries of history, we ensure a journey that is as seamless and comfortable as it is profoundly authentic.

Deep within the remote expanses of the Mauritanian desert lies one of the planet’s most surreal and awe-inspiring geological formations: Guelb er Richat, widely known as the Eye of the Sahara.
Guelb er Richat is a colossal, perfectly circular symmetrical dome stretching nearly 40 kilometers across the arid plateaus of the Adrar, characterized by giant concentric rings of exposed rock, sweeping ring dikes, and stark color contrasts that create a forbidding yet mesmerizing cosmic landscape visible from space. Not far from its jagged ridges lies the rugged rim of the structure, featuring ancient volcanic intrusions and silica-rich rock layers that tell a geological history spanning hundreds of millions of years. Together, these sweeping concentric rings form a striking natural marvel, featuring dramatic stone ridges, desert varnished plateaus, and vast gravel flats that thrive in absolute isolation amid the endless sands.

Deep within the remote expanses of the Mauritanian desert lie two of the Sahara’s most extraordinary and historically profound ancient oasis towns: Chinguetti and Oualata.
Chinguetti is a legendary, sand-swept settlement clinging to the edge of the Adrar plateau, renowned for its striking dry-stone architecture, ancient towering minaret, and invaluable medieval libraries that house centuries-old Islamic manuscripts. Not far away, across the sweeping dunes of the southeastern desert, lies Oualata, a magnificent medieval metropolis distinguished by its intricately decorated mud-brick facades, geometric white-and-ochre painted walls, and rich heritage as a pivotal trans-Saharan trading and scholarship hub. Together, these UNESCO-listed cultural centers form a striking testament to human resilience and intellectual legacy, featuring masterworks of desert architecture, hidden courtyards, and vibrant living traditions that thrive in absolute isolation amid the endless sands.

/BANC D’ARGUIN
Deep along the remote Atlantic coastline of Mauritania lies one of the planet’s most vital and ecologically rich coastal wildernesses: the Banc d’Arguin National Park.
Banc d’Arguin is a vast, protected mosaic of shallow marine waters, mudflats, and deserted sand islands stretching across hundreds of kilometers of shoreline, characterized by exceptionally warm currents and pristine seagrass beds that create a forbidding yet mesmerizing marine sanctuary. Not far from the mainland’s sweeping desert dunes lies this critical wetland hub, serving as the ultimate wintering ground for millions of migratory birds from across Europe and the Arctic. Along these secluded shores lies a striking contrast of marine and desert ecosystems, featuring traditional Imraguen fishermen navigating the coastal shallows in wooden sailboats, massive colonies of nesting seabirds, and crystalline waters where rare Mediterranean monk seals thrive in absolute isolation amid the crashing Atlantic surf.
